Knock Knock Mr. Doctor

Knock Knock Mr. Doctor, I am sick. Can you open the door and attend me?

A normal answer to this petition should be:
Yes! How can I help you?
But in our public health system is not that way,
because we have to wait…

…Wait for the number 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10 to be attended,
Wait for the next bus, cuz they have not enough ambulances,
Wait ’till the next month, when they are suppose to have medicines,
Wait ’till the next semester to have a surgery,
or in the best case,
wait for someone else´s operation to be postponed.
Wait ’till the next brother dies…
…sometimes that’s the only way to have an empty bed in a hospital.

Do we all deserve it?
Is it normal that almost 70% of Salvadorans don´t believe in public health?

The answer to these questions is NO!
NO! cuz health is a Human Right.
NO! cuz is not fair that only the 10% of the National Budget is assigned for Salvadorans Health.
NO! cuz we are dying of illnesses that in other countries are not a threat.
NO! cuz is not possible that two baby twins come to the world and at that moment their mom died in the hospital.

That’s the case of Jocelyn, a 28 years old woman who died this month.
She, like a farmer prepared the soil to plant two seeds.
Seeds that nine months later would evolve into the best gift that God could give to a woman.
Although they came to this world normally,
a malpractice doesn´t let them know their mother…
…because she had to say goodbye the same day she said:
“Welcome to the world my babies”

It is sad to think that cases like this are not just one, so what the hell are we waiting to make a change?

Maybe when we were the ones who were knocking at the doctor’s door?

I hope not.
